Markham, Ontario, Canada, December 6th, 2007 – The Orthotic Group, a world leader in custom orthotics, orthotic footwear and innovative computerized gait analysis technology GaitScan™, today announces GaitScan’s™ fifth anniversary. With 4096 sensors, it is the only system for healthcare practitioners that provides both static and dynamic measure scanning at 300 frames per second providing over one million data points recorded for analysis. “When I started at The Orthotic Group 20 years ago, we didn’t have a computer anywhere in the office. When they came to me with the idea of pressure plate technology, I was totally against it because I had seen other systems out there, and I didn’t believe they were good enough. Because they weren’t. Then they showed me GaitScan™ and I became convinced that the technology was far superior to what I had seen previously. The best thing about GaitScan™ is that it allows us to see where a patient pronates so that we can correct their abnormal biomechanics accurately where their problems occurs. After five years, and over 100,000 orthotics later, I am convinced in the technology,” stated James Canning, Chief Biomechanical & Clinical Advisor, The Orthotic Group.

About Hush Puppies
In 1958 Victor Krause, then Chairman of Michigan’s Wolverine World Wide Inc., took a leave of absence to develop a shoe that utilized a new technology in the tanning process of suede. What he developed was the first truly casual shoe, an oxford using this unique suede. While traveling in Tennessee with the new suede shoes, Jim Muir, a company salesman, was dining at a friend’s home. One of the items of food served was a uniquely Southern dish of fried corn dough called “Hush Puppies”. Jim asked his host why this dish was called Hush Puppies and was told that after the meal any of the remaining corn dough (Hush Puppies) was fed to the dogs to keep them from barking, thus the name Hush Puppies. Interestingly, it was, and still is, common to refer to one’s aching feet as “barking dogs”. Hence, the salesman thought it appropriate to name the new line of comfortable casual suede oxfords...Hush Puppies. “Keep your dogs quiet by giving them Hush Puppies.” 45 years later, Hush Puppies, the original casual shoe, continues to set new standards in footwear.
Hush Puppies in Canada
Hush Puppies Canada was born in 1989. Previously, a footwear manufacturer had the license to distribute Hush Puppies footwear in our country. In December of 1989, Hush Puppies Canada Ltd. was formed to create new product ideas in the casual segment of the footwear market. This would allow the consumer a uniquely Canadian perspective on footwear while encompassing the Hush Puppies philosophy of “fun, comfortable, and genuine style” shoes for the entire family. Being Canada, the logical extension to the classic Hush Puppies suede oxford is a casual winter boot. Therefore Hush Puppies Canada went about establishing itself as a premier manufacturer of waterproof casual Hush Puppies winter boots in smooth leather and suede. Hush Puppies boots are now viewed as the footwear of choice for people looking for quality and comfort combined with stylish fashion.

Canada's best small business employers
The Orthotic Group ranks 13th
Written by Steve Brearton
Report on Small Business Magazine
Small companies have some inherent advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, everyone on staff really does know your name. There's also the excitement and camaraderie involved in building a new enterprise. Of course, that also means risk and uncertainty. The smaller the team, the more critical it is to attract and retain the right talent.
The winners here are striving to do just that. In scope and diversity, they prove there's no magic formula and no particular sector that stands out. The top companies stretch from coast to coast. No. 1 on the list is Halifax-based SportsDirect, a star in the world of on-line sports statistics and gambling odds. Other top picks include community credit unions, non-profit agencies and some fascinating niche businesses.
Our partners in the survey are the Queen's School of Business and Hewitt Associates, a global human resources outsourcing and consulting firm. The study was coordinated through the Queen's Centre for Business Venturing, whose mission is to improve the odds of success for new ventures.
The process began last summer, when 79 organizations from across the country registered for the study. For the most part, each employer's ranking was based on a detailed questionnaire handed out to employees. Other factors taken into consideration include information about the organization's leaders, how closely the goals of those leaders and the company's workers are aligned, and whether workplace practices and programs reinforce the employer's vision.

Vaughan, Ontario - October 14th, 2004 A Markham orthotics company has donated hundreds of dollars of footwear to Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Ivan which ravaged parts of the island last month.
The Orthotic Group (TOG) made the presentation to Lluidas Vale Rehabilitation Development Foundation’s (LVRDF) Toronto chapter at a simple ceremony last week.
“We are touched by this gesture of goodwill,” said Tim Escoffery, the president of the LVRDF. “It just goes to show there are people out there who care and are willing to step forward and help others in times of need.”
TOG Vice-President Justin Shulman said he’s happy to be able to make the charitable donation. “We sell close to 30,000 pairs of shoes each year,” he said. “We are just pleased to be able to make this contribution to a good cause. It’s an honour for us to give to a community that’s desperately in need.”
Dr. Jordie Isen, the President of Chiro-Ped Inc., which specializes in the custom foot orthotics and biomechanical assessments, played a key role in helping the LVRDF secure the footwear from TOG.
“I am a client of TOG and I have many friends who reside in Jamaica,” he said. “When I approached TOG with the idea of sending shoes to Jamaica, they were more than willing to oblige.”
The mainly sandals and shoes, which range from sizes 5-13, will be distributed in Lluidas Vale in St. Catherine.
“In the community there, we have a group that will be responsible for distribution,” added Escoffery. “They know the needs and will ensure that the footwear will get into the hands of those who need the most.”
In the past 19 years, TOG has built solid relationships with healthcare practitioners by providing them with quality products and an innovative approach to the orthotic industry. The company’s functional orthotics are manufactured and using memory thermoplastic, and are available in control options ranging from 1mm to 3.5mm.
